Photo Walk :: Super Moon

Not sure if this technically qualifies for a "photo walk" since I just walked out to my street....

This weekend's "Super Moon" was quite a sight.  I don't know if it was more of a sight than usual, but it was beautiful in all its fullness and brightness.    I took a few shots of her, but found that my pictures looked a bit boring.   The above shot caught my attention - taken through the branches our barely budding Flowering Dogwood.

Photo Walk :: Snowy Day

This is my 3rd winter in Tennessee and I still find myself all geeked out about the snow.   I love the way snow accumulates on nekkid trees.  

 I love the way it looks on pine cones.   

I love the way it looks on pine needles

I love the sound of it falling on the dead oak leaves that are still on the trees.   Or how sometimes you can catch a little melty droplet

I love the look of it on anything after freshly falling.

These pictures were all taken on my property after a pretty big snow (for us anyway).   I had to really challenge myself to find "interesting" content around my house.   If I had better snow gear, I may have been a little more active in my shots....as it was, I had 3 grocery bags duck-taped around my sneakers.   

Hey, I'm from California...give me a break.  And anyway, it worked really really well (thanks Ms. Julie)

Why don't you start to challenge yourself to find the "interesting" in the everyday things around you...

Photo Walk :: Good Tidings

Spending the holiday season with my family in Texas.   There's nothing like being at my Mom's house during this time of year.  I'm surrounded by Christmas decor from many years past alongside those things that have been added to her collection after I left home so many years ago.     There's alot of nostalgia there for me...stories and memories that fill each room of the house.   I decided to take a little "photo walk" around the house...

Nashville

Yesterday, I braved the freezing - yes, freezing - weather and participated with 30 other photographers in a photo walk of downtown Nashville. In attendance were the owners of the IHeartFaces blog as well as photographer Michael Howard. Michael challenged us to get out of our photographic comfort zone. For me, that meant shooting at different angles and looking for ordinary things to make a little less ordinary through the use of my camera.

My favorite part of the walk was watching the other photographers and how they chose to shoot things - physically AND conceptually. Looking at their results compared to mine - not to see what's better, but to see what's different...taking those differences and allowing them to stretch me and grow me out of my comfort zone.
