Photo Walk :: Good Tidings

Spending the holiday season with my family in Texas.   There's nothing like being at my Mom's house during this time of year.  I'm surrounded by Christmas decor from many years past alongside those things that have been added to her collection after I left home so many years ago.     There's alot of nostalgia there for me...stories and memories that fill each room of the house.   I decided to take a little "photo walk" around the house...

Some of glass sculptor Dale Chihuly's work is currently being featured at Cheekwood.   One word:  Breathtaking.

Of Grave Concern....

Spent a few minutes capturing a few images in an old graveyard on Thursday...some really old headstones there, along with alot of markers for babies. Apparently a plague had come through sometime in the early 1900's.

Horsing Around

File this one under "different strokes for different folks". These "horse hardware" shots may not be for everyone - but my shutter finger has a hard time staying away from shots like these. Especially when I imagine what I will do in post-production. Grungy, urban and dirty...

Nashville

Yesterday, I braved the freezing - yes, freezing - weather and participated with 30 other photographers in a photo walk of downtown Nashville. In attendance were the owners of the IHeartFaces blog as well as photographer Michael Howard. Michael challenged us to get out of our photographic comfort zone. For me, that meant shooting at different angles and looking for ordinary things to make a little less ordinary through the use of my camera.

My favorite part of the walk was watching the other photographers and how they chose to shoot things - physically AND conceptually. Looking at their results compared to mine - not to see what's better, but to see what's different...taking those differences and allowing them to stretch me and grow me out of my comfort zone.

The Old Mill Series

These pictures were taken at the site of “The Old Mill” (also known as Pugh's Old Mill) located in Little Rock, AR. The site was nationally recognized in 1986 by being placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was featured in the opening scene of Gone With the Wind.

This series is one of my personal favorites...
